Liska’s Role in Jewish Spiritual Heritage

Liska, established as a hub of Jewish cultural and religious life in the 1800s, holds an important place in history. Thousands of pilgrims come annually to pay homage to Tzvi Hirsh Liska, also revered as Hershele Lisker. The village hosts more than 500 Jewish historical sites, including cemeteries and places of worship that represent a rich heritage. With nearly 3,000 Jewish residents in the late 19th century, Liska was a thriving center of Jewish culture. Liska’s legacy has reached nearby towns, notably Kerestir, impacting Jewish life in Hungary. Liska welcomes approximately 5,000 visitors annually, who come for its spiritual and historical significance.

Efforts to preserve Liska’s heritage are supported by both local and international groups.
